Dickson Medical Associates is pleased to welcome Dr. Giacomo Meeker as its new general surgeon. Meeker comes to DMA from The Surgical Clinic based in Nashville, where he has served as their Dickson- based surgeon for the past three years.

Medicine has played a role in Meeker’s life from a young age. Growing up, his father was as a physician in Dickson for over 15 years. With a fondness for mechanics, Meeker spent his childhood days taking things apart and putting them back together. He also enjoyed building houses for various pets and performing scientific experiments. These passions for mechanics and science while growing up in a doctor’s household left little doubt that Meeker would pursue his family trade.

“As a man of faith, I grew up in a family that emphasized service to one’s community as part of your career choice,” said Meeker. “Surgery is the only job where I am never bored. I’m able to blend my hobby of science with a desire to care for others in a way that is rewarding for myself and
my hometown.”

As part of his surgical practice at DMA’s Crestview office, Meeker will also be overseeing the DMA Endoscopy Center. This center provides patients with on-site screenings for GI-based diseases including colon cancer.

“It’s no secret that screening colonoscopies save lives,” said Meeker. “We can detect early stage cancers and sometimes we are able to cure it during the colonoscopy or with follow up surgery. Anytime people meet the requirements for a screening endoscopy, I think they should get it.”

As a board certified general surgeon, Meeker provides laparoscopic surgical repair for various surgeries. He specializes in breast cancer, hernia, colon and gallbladder procedures, skin cancer removal as well as thyroid repair.

“Cancer surgery is one of the most gratifying aspects of my profession,” said Meeker. “I have patients who come to my office after being diagnosed and, a lot times, we can cure the cancer with surgery alone. When those same patients come back, post-surgery, with the cancer removed, I see the emotional weight lifted from them. Those sights are the best moments of my medical career.”

Whether he is engaging patients who are facing the challenges of cancer or helping someone with a routine in-office procedure, Meeker wants people to leave his practice with more answers than questions.

“I want my patients to receive the type of care from me that I would want my own family to get,” said Meeker. “At the end of the day, I want to have their concerns addressed and feeling confident about the plan we have moving forward.”

Outside of his practice, Meeker enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife Monica. They are now passing down their passions for hiking, kayaking and traveling to their three children. During the school year, Meeker enjoys helping his kids with their homework and coaching his daughter’s basketball team.

DMA’s Endoscopy Center is located in Suite 110 at the Crestview office. For the rest of 2018, Meeker will be scheduling procedures at the endoscopy center one Saturday per month. Please call his clinic for the Saturday availabilities.
